The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), together with leading industrial technology providers, including Hubbard Products, have developed the Smart Manufacturing Accelerator; a framework for planning, designing and implementing integrated manufacturing and supply chain solutions enhanced by digital tools.

The Smart Manufacturing Accelerator (SMA) has been designed to enable UK based businesses to catapult their expansion through the adoption of smart manufacturing techniques, I4.0 technology and the very latest remote manufacturing practices.

The SMA is a proven approach for the application of industrial digital technologies to help organisations optimise productivity, expand globally and bring products to market more rapidly. The impact the SMA could have on products and processes can be seen in the ‘Factory In A Box” demonstrator.

Robin Thatcher, Chief Programme Engineer at the MTC, said: “Many companies have problems with manufacturing integration and with their supply chains, and through the SMA, we want to help them improve their productivity and operational performance.”

The project is being delivered in partnership with the MTC and the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) and funded by Innovate UK.

The SMA has also engaged with a series of Technology Partners, who have provided products and/or services to support the development of ‘Factory In A Box’.

“We believe that our technology partners are ahead of the field,” said Robin. “They can see the potential here and the project not only provides them with a platform to showcase their solutions, but it also provides an opportunity for collaboration, not just with the MTC and SMA but also between the partners themselves.”
